YMCA OF SYDNEY

Mission Statement:
MISSION STATEMENT: The YMCAs of Australia work together, from a base of Christian values, to provide opportunities for all people to grow in body, mind and spirit. STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: The YMCA of Sydney is part of the worldwide YMCA movement and is a vital Christian organisation workingf to help create a better community through its programs, based on personal and leadership development.

Description:
Since its establishment in 1853, the YMCA of Sydney has flourished in spite of many wars, depressions and recessions. The YMCA has continually evolved and developed by responding to the changing needs of the community that it serves. The YMCA of Sydney is a not for profit community based organisation, incorporated by Act of New South Wales Parliament in 1906 amended 1976. The YMCA of Sydney has a charter to serve all young people and whilst we must and will pursue this charter, we shall also give additional attention to both working with and serving the broader community as reflected in our Mission Statement. Volunteer opportunities are many and varied from assisting in programs, or coaching, to leadership in outdoor education, or from service on committees, to the Board of Directors, involvement in sporting clubs or opportunities for those with special skills or knowledge. The YMCA provides training, supervision and opportunity.
